Self Care Made Simple.
You want to know a word I really struggle with? Balance. I know it is not that scary of a word but when it comes to juggling family life - balance is like a mythical creature. Just when I think I have found said balance, life throws a curveball and the baby starts nap striking. Or I come down with a cold or the fridge breaks. It seemed like chasing after balance always left me feeling depleted and like I was failing.
So here is my new word. Equilibrium. Doesn’t that just roll off your tongue better? I love it. My dear friend Sheila and I were talking about the mythical creature, balance, and our dislike for it. She mentioned the word equilibrium and it was like a light came on for me. When I think of equilibrium I instantly imagine one of those homemade science experiments with water and oil. Try as you might to mix them, they always settle back into their original place. That is what I hope for in my home and when it comes to daily “Me Time”.
Here are my tips for aiming for equilibrium and making daily “Me Time” happen:
1. Establish a flexible routine. One that allows for the unexpected but also creates a rhythm in your day to day life. Stick to it. Allow it to be an anchor for you!
2. Set a few non-negotiables - things that happen no matter what or no matter how tired you are! A few of mine are:
3. Schedule in a long soak, uninterrupted time to read, or go for a long walk alone. Let the people in your life know you need this weekly to be at your best each week!
4. Have a few healthy frozen meals or quick throw together favorites that are easy to defrost or make for when life goes haywire! This way you can still get that long soak or walk in and not be spending that time making dinner!
What are your favorite ways to create space for “Me Time” - let me know, I love to hear from you!
