5 BENEFITS OF USING A FACIAL TONER
Most people will admit the benefits of daily washing your face - removing dirt and oils, opening up clogged pores, etc. Those who are more diligent in their skin care regimen may add a moisturizer afterward, but there should be one more step in between: a facial toner. I’m sure most people don’t even know what a facial toner is.
Historically skincare companies were not as aware of how their products were stripping the natural PH out of the skin. Back then, toners were meant to be
applied after washing to rebalance the skin. Now, they have a variety of other uses. Here are 5 benefits you can get if you apply a facial toner after your morning face wash but before you put your moisturizer on.
1) BRING ON THE HYDRATION!
You would think that washing your face with water and a good soap would be enough to hydrate it, but no. Water evaporates and especially for sufferers of dry skin, that’s not going to cut it.
Many facial toners help hydrate the face but are often more lightweight than a moisturizer. Meaning - this is a great option for those of us who have a combined skin type (both oily and dry in some places). For skin types like these, moisturizers might sit too heavy on the face and provide a little TOO much hydration. (Can I see a show of hands? I know I’m not alone!)
2) FIGHTS INFLAMMATION AND REDNESS
Acne sufferers know this never ending drama: finding the right product that will magically solve all your break out problems. What’s even worse, is acne prone skin tends to get angry when you try to care for it. Am I the only one that seems to notice how red and inflamed it gets after I have tried to give it a thorough washing?
Adding a facial toner might be the trick. After giving your face a thorough washing, applying a facial toner with anti-inflammatory essential oils in the mixture can help to calm angry skin and prevent breakouts.
3) KICK OUT OIL AND BACTERIA
After washing your face, your skin may be freshly clean, but it’s also naked and vulnerable!
Many over the counter soaps don’t just strip dirt and oil away. They strip EVERYTHING away - i.e. your body’s natural defenses against dirt and bacteria.
By using a toner after you wash, you’re helping add some good oil back to your skin so that your body doesn’t go into shock and OVER produce oil to replenish what it just lost. The toner will also provide a healthy barrier to ward off bacteria that may be floating past you as you go about your day.
4) ADDITIONAL EMOTIONAL BOOST
The first three made sense, but this point may seem like it’s pushing things a little bit. The amazing thing is, it’s not!
Naturally-made facial toners often include essential oils that have a calming effect when applied. Lavender, for instance, is an essential oil that is known for its ability to help you RELAX! I don’t know about you, but that’s something I need first thing in the morning.
5) TIGHTEN UP THE RANKS!
This last point required no research; it’s something I have personally noticed. When I wash my face - as I’m sure most people do - I use warm water along with my natural face soap to help open my pores and clear out all the grossness.
Here’s the cool part. I have noticed that the facial toner is super effective at re-closing those pores again almost instantly! I kid you not - upon applying the toner I can literally feel the pores shrinking and tightening my clean skin up again: defending it against whatever dirt it might encounter throughout the day.
