Self Care Made Simple.
Once again we here at Rooted are thrilled to be joining forces with Mary's Meals during the month of January!! Those of you who shopped during the Christmas season helped us in our goal of feeding children not only in Zambia (in November)but also in Liberia during December.Â
In December, we were able to send enough money to support 63 kids in Liberia by feeding them at school for a year!! Now in January we are teaming up with Mary's Meals to feed children in Malawi (where it all began).
Why three months of Mary's Meals? Because we here at Rooted love the values that Mary's Meals stands for:
"We respect the dignity of every human being and family life.
We believe that those who require our aid should be seen not as the problem but as people who can become the principal builders of a new, more human future for everyone. Therefore we are committed to:
Yahaya from Mkaika zone in Malawi is just one of the reason's we chose to donate to Malawi this month. Here is his story:
"Yahaya dropped out of school at just 10 years old. Yahaya couldn’t concentrate in class, distracted by the need to know he would find some food each day. He felt his dreams of an education were over, as the unfair reality of his family’s circumstances dawned. Hungry and feeling the burden of his family’s poverty, he skipped school to fish so he could help feed himself and his family. He would watch his friends in a neighbouring school, enjoying classes with energy and enthusiasm. They were receiving Mary’s Meals, but the porridge had not yet reached Masmala school where Yahaya and his siblings attended.Â
Then one day, an unmistakeable curl of smoke above Masmala school signaled the arrival of a new day, and a new era for Yahaya and his friends — our trusted partner MCSPA had brought the Mary’s Meals school feeding program to Yahaya’s village. When news reached this eager young boy, he could hardly wait to return to his studies.Â
Yahaya said: 'Gone are the days of missing class because of lack of a nutritious meal. Mary’s Meals has had a positive impact on my education. It helps me concentrate and not to sleep in class. My dreams were shuttered, but now I can see light at the end of the tunnel.'
Mary’s Meals is currently feeding more than 1,040,000 children in towns and villages across Malawi. Many are in difficult to reach areas with complex landscapes. It is in these challenging places that MCSPA provides invaluableon-the-ground work, delivering our program to thousands of children and ensuring we continue to reach the next child waiting for Mary’s Meals."
Rooted is honored to have amazing customers like you who will help us impact the lives of kids like Yahaya in Malawi this month.
