Safety During Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Essential oils can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding—but with extra caution & only under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
During Pregnancy:
- Stick to gentle oils like Lavender, Chamomile, Frankincense, & Citrus oils
- Avoid oils known to stimulate the uterus or cause contractions (e.g. Clary Sage, Cinnamon, Rosemary, Wintergreen)
- Always use proper dilution (typically 1% or less) & avoid applying near the abdomen in the first trimester
- Diffusing is generally considered safer than topical use
While Breastfeeding:
- Use only mild, baby-safe oils
- Avoid applying oils directly to the chest where the baby may come into contact
- Monitor for any skin reactions or sensitivity in both mom & baby
As with all things during this season, it’s best to consult with a healthcare provider—especially if you have any medical conditions or are taking medications.
