How to Use a Bath Soak
Bath soak, therapy bath salts, epsom salts – I’m sure you’ve heard of them before, but what’s the hype?
Full confession: I am probably one of the only humans on the planet who had no idea what bath soaks were. Going a little deeper, I also didn’t understand the point of wasting precious minutes to sit in a bath instead of taking a quick shower and moving on to the next activity in my busy day.
Per usual for me, I struggle to take necessary time for myself in order to recharge. On the off chance you are like me, let’s answer some common questions you might have (I know I did!) about how to use bath soaks and why they might be worth the investment of your time and money.
What's in the Typical Bath Salt?
Most bath soaks have a mix of epsom salts and essential oils. Soaking in epsom salts alone can be incredibly soothing to aching muscles and joints, but when you add essential oils to the mix: hello, spa day!
When used topically, essential oils have countless benefits; however, make sure you don’t have any allergies or sensitivities to them before using.
The amount you should use varies, based on weight. For children sixty pounds or under, you’d want about a half cup of epsom salt, dissolved.
Adults from sixty to one hundred pounds need a cup of salt. Add about an extra half cup for every fifty pounds of body weight after that and you’re all set!
How Long Do You Soak?
In order to get results, you’d want to soak for at least twelve minutes.
Of course, consult with your doctor if you are uncertain about how bath soaks will affect you or if it’s to treat something specific. Different ailments may need longer or shorter soak durations in order for you to see results.
But, if you have no medical issues, you can honestly soak for as long as you want.
How Often Can I Soak?
As said before, if you have no medical issues, you can soak in epsom salts as frequently as you’d like. There are many benefits to a bath soak, but here are some examples of problems that can be eased if not cured by epsom salts with essential oils: arthritis, sprains, psoriasis, sore muscles from a workout, sunburns, pregnancy discomfort (consult with your doctor on this one!), and even insomnia and anxiety.
Essential oils can have an incredible effect on your mood and mental health as well!
Whether it’s for physical healing or to help your emotional health, consider bath soaks as a possible addition to your self-care regimen. At Rooted for Good, our bath soaks include epsom salt, pink Himalayan salt, premium lavender flowers and our 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils: wintergreen, peppermint, clove and copaiba. All of these oils are known to be soothing and have anti-inflammatory properties when used both topically and aromatically.
It’s tempting to think that setting time aside for yourself is selfish, but it most definitely doesn’t have to be. You can’t give from a cup that is constantly being emptied. Give of yourself from the overflow, not the remnant.
Help yourself, so you can better help others!
